Fort Bend ISD students, their families, and community members were invited to explore, invent, and experiment with various interactive activities during Fort Bend ISD’s STEAM Fest 2020.

The free event was Saturday, February 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at James Reese Career and Technical Center (12300 University Blvd., Sugar Land, 77479). FBISD’s Career and Technical Education Department hosts the annual event, which focuses on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) activities. At this year’s event, students, as well as representatives from local companies, non-profit organizations and FBISD student organizations/clubs were available to share fun and interactive STEAM activities with the community. 

STEAM Fest attendees had the opportunity to take part in more than 30 STEAM-inspired activities, including: a forensic science lab where they can examine evidence to solve a fictitious “crime;” a food exploration lab; art exhibits; a 3-D printing station; a Rube Goldberg machine contest; a straw-tower building station and much more!

“This is a day to inspire and excite learners of all ages to problem-solve and continue to learn outside of the classroom,” said Meredith Watassek, Director of CTE for Fort Bend ISD. “Engaging, hands-on activities help students explore the possibilities offered in classes through Career and Technical Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.”

This year, Hunton Services was a proud participant in STEAM Fest. We brought along a mini-split system to help explain the basics of HVAC mechanics to the kids. We also set up a slime making station, where the kids were able to use their creativity and their hands to make some ooey-gooey slime! Every year, we have such a great time interacting with the kids and sharing our knowledge of HVAC at this wonderful event. We look forward to next year!
