The R-410A Refrigerant Phase-Out: What It Means for Your Business and Why You Should Upgrade Now

In December 2020, the U.S. Congress passed the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act, requiring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce the production and use of certain refrigerants, including R-410A, by 85% between 2022 and 2036.

This phase-out is already underway and will have a direct impact on businesses with aging HVAC systems. If your system uses R-410A, now is the time to start planning your upgrade.

Why This Matters to Your Business
  • – Increased Repair Costs: As R-410A becomes harder to source, prices for repairs on existing systems will climb. Finding replacement refrigerant will not only be more expensive but also harder to come by. Even simple repairs could result in higher bills due to the need for costly recharges.
  •
  • – Greater Risk of Breakdowns: Older HVAC systems are more prone to leaks and failures. With R-410A’s limited availability, unexpected breakdowns can lead to significant downtime and costly emergency service calls.
  •
  • – Environmental Responsibility: R-410A has a high global warming potential (GWP). Phasing it out supports environmental goals and helps businesses meet sustainability commitments while lowering their carbon footprint.

The Benefits of Upgrading Your HVAC System Now

Cost Savings

By replacing your R-410A system now, you avoid paying rising refrigerant costs and reduce long-term maintenance expenses. Modern HVAC systems use more efficient refrigerants and consume less energy, lowering your utility bills.

Enhanced Performance

Newer systems deliver better reliability and greater efficiency, keeping your building comfortable year-round while reducing the risk of costly breakdowns.

Regulatory Compliance

Upgrading ensures your HVAC system is in line with current and future environmental regulations, eliminating the worry of non-compliance penalties.
